Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan announces Small Business Strategy

Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan has announced the Alberta Liberal strategy for supporting small businesses.

Khan stated, “The Alberta Liberals are putting forward concrete policies for helping small businesses. $100 billion a year is injected into the Alberta economy by small businesses, more GDP per capita than any other province in Canada. That is reflective of the strong entrepreneurial spirit in Alberta. We want to fully unleash the economic power of that spirit with our smart reforms.

“The early years of a small business are the hardest. That is why we will grant a tax holiday for incorporated and unincorporated small businesses for their first three years. This will help new businesses find their financial footing and become profitable and sustainable during their toughest years.

“Too many debtors, often large companies, defer payments for months at a time to small- and medium-sized businesses. These late payments hurt businesses’ cash flows, making it more difficult for them to pay employees and keep their operations afloat. This is an especially large problem for small- and medium-sized oilfield service and trucking companies who are often paid months late by larger companies who do not have a significant financial incentive to pay on time. We will increase the financial penalties for late payments by amending the Alberta Judgment Interest Act.

Alberta Liberals respond to Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s Op-Ed

Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan responds to Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s Op-Ed in the Calgary Herald on important city issues.

Khan stated, “Mayor Nenshi’s comments were unfair, inaccurate and disappointing. He dismisses all parties’ proposals as inadequate. We suggest he read the Alberta Liberal Party Policy Platform released earlier this week. We made important commitments on issues.

The Mayor is right that the UCP and NDP have waffled on city issues or remained silent. Alberta Liberals did neither. We are walking the Talk.

The Mayor’s Op-Ed is full of inaccuracies, misstatements and outright wrong facts. He suggested that no party has a fair distribution plan for cannabis tax revenue nor is Extended Producer Responsibility on any party’s radar. Alberta Liberals have clear policies in these areas. Our cannabis policy committed to an equitable cannabis revenue-sharing model. We also committed to Extended Producer Responsibility in our platform. Furthermore the  Alberta Liberals pushed the NDP to pursue it in the Legislature.

“Alberta Liberals Policy Platform also pledged to recognize municipalities as an order of Government. We will grant them new revenue generating powers and double the funding for affordable housing. We will implement these policies based on consultation and collaboration with cities.

“Alberta Liberals have pledged many bold policies on key municipalities. We have made cities a priority this election. We will make life better for Albertans.”

Alberta Liberals announce long-term Environment Protection Policy

Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan announces the Alberta Liberal Party’s long-term plan for protecting Alberta’s environment.

Khan stated, “The Alberta Liberals are committed to protecting our precious environment. The ecosystem is connected to all parts of our life. We have the most comprehensive plan of any political party. We are making this a priority issue.

“We have a four-pillar plan for a more environmentally-responsible Alberta. This includes climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, taking care of nature and living sustainably.

“We have a strategy to mitigate climate-change. We will grow renewable energy, adopt a revenue-neutral carbon tax, and implement a voluntary high-polluting vehicle retirement program.

“We will create wildlife corridors, improve urban planning and adequately funding for disaster preparedness. This will help humans and wildlife adapt to the consequences of climate-change.
