Friday Focus: Scandal and Corruption
Two big scandals are rocking Alberta politics right now, and both stem from the same problem—corruption.
Elections Alberta has fined the political action group Take Back Alberta over $100,000 for blatantly violating election laws. It took money from outside Alberta (and even outside Canada), spent more than allowed, and filed false financial reports. TBA is the same organization that claims to have taken over the boards running the UCP and, by extension, exerting control over Alberta’s government.
And that’s not even the biggest bombshell. News reports suggest Alberta Health Services’ former CEO was fired after raising concerns about private surgery contracts worth over half a billion dollars. Firing those who call out the government sadly has become a pattern of Alberta’s UCP-run government.
Shady, backroom deals and a government that helps their friends pocket Albertans’ taxes aren’t how any responsible government should operate.
We in the Alberta Liberal Party are appalled at the dishonesty and lack of accountability in our government. Alberta needs an honest, open government that works for you—not for UCP cronies...
We need your help to make this happen. Join us in the fight for better governance and a fair Alberta, run by a transparent and accountable government.
One that helps Alberta’s citizens, not one that helps themselves to Alberta’s citizens’ hard-earned taxes.
