Friday Focus: Down a Dark and Dangerous Path
Danielle Smith has made it clear—she’s more interested in picking fights with the federal government and encouraging anti-science theories than solving problems. And Albertans are paying the price.
Instead of focusing on real solutions, here’s what she’s been up to this past week:
-
Blocking Housing in Jasper – After devastating wildfires, hundreds of Jasper residents need homes. Parks Canada and the town have a plan, but Smith is holding things up, blaming the feds instead of working to get shovels in the ground and threatening to pull provincial funding. Meanwhile, families are stuck waiting and an Alberta icon remains decimated.
-
Undermining Canada on Trade – With US tariffs looming, every other province is working with the federal government to present a united front. Smith? She’s going rogue, trying to negotiate separately by appeasing Trump—making Alberta unreliable and weakening Canada’s position.Premier Smith seems to think cuddling up to a bully is a good idea. I disagree. Tariffs will be bad for us, but bad for Americans also. Knuckling under to Trumps’s demands will only bring more demands for more concessions.
- Pushing a COVID Conspiracy narrative – Smith’s $2 Million “COVID response review” is packed with falsehoods, questioning vaccines and public health measures. Doctors and scientists are alarmed, warning it spreads distrust in science and puts lives at risk. The notoriously small “c” conservative Alberta Medical Association and Canadian Medical Association both said the report spreads misinformation. The report falsely claimed the former head of the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary was a contributor to the report and had to remove his name from the report. It wasn’t peer reviewed. Yet our Premier defended the report. That’s not surprising since she previously wasted $1 Million to get a report from Preston Manning after he had put out an earlier, fictional one pushing the same agenda. To say $3 Million could be better spent is a sad understatement.
Premier Smith’s “leadership” and her UCP party are taking Alberta backward, down a dark and dangerous path. It’s time for a government that focuses on positive results for all Albertans. The Alberta Liberal Party stands for real solutions, not pointless propaganda.
We can’t be complacent. We need to plan now for the next election. Join us. Speak up. Take action. Be part of positive change, to build a better Alberta. Your support and efforts are very much appreciated. All of us need to work together if we are going to succeed.
