Friday Focus: What are these Priorities?
The Friday Focus is a weekly blog post from Alberta Liberal Interim Leader John Roggeveen covering the top political issues of the week.
Sick of this Nonsense
Despite an unprecedented rise in respiratory sickness keeping record numbers of kids home sick and in hospitals, the UCP refuses to follow the science and reverse its course on masking in schools.
Danielle Smith and her crew claim this is to protect children’s mental health but studies have shown masks have minimal impact on mental health and social interaction. On the other hand, fear of illness, stress from missing classes and having to isolate from friends can be serious mental health concerns.
Parents, educators and healthcare experts have all begged the government to change their position, to no avail. If Smith is serious about children’s well-being she should stop her political games, listen to the science and the Alberta Liberals, and allow the new Chief Medical Officer of Health to immediately issue a mask recommendation for schools facing outbreaks.
Priorities
Danielle Smith has tasked her Ministers to pursue a provincial police force, create an Alberta tax collection agency and pull Albertans out of the Canada Pension Plan.
All of these ideas are a waste of tax money. The fact these are the UCP’s priorities says everything you need to know about them.
The UCP doesn’t really care about jobs. affordability, or public services. Their focus is on endless political battles with their perceived enemies. .
The Alberta Liberal party’s focus is on what matters to you. In the lead-up to our policy convention, our members have submitted a wide range of policies to improve the lives of everyday Albertans.
If you want to have your say in which policies move forward to our Policy Convention you won’t want to miss our Regional Policy Meetings starting this weekend. You can find more info on the Northern Meeting here and the Southern Meeting here. And don’t forget to RSVP for the Policy Convention and AGM on December 10th here.
