Friday Focus: We Have Lowest Education Funding in Canada

Alberta’s investment in each school student is the lowest in Canada and the recent budget did nothing to change this. This is not just a statistic; it's a reflection of our priorities and a predictor of our future. We are 13% behind the national average spending per student.

Investing in education is investing in our children's future and the future of Alberta. It's about providing equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their background or where they live. It's about preparing a skilled workforce that can adapt to the ever-changing demands of the global economy. Yet, despite our province's wealth, we need to catch up in providing adequate resources for our schools.

The consequences of underfunding education are far-reaching. It leads to larger class sizes, fewer resources for students with special needs, limited access to technology, and a decline in the overall quality of education. This not only hinders the personal growth of our students but also weakens our province's competitiveness and social fabric.

As the Alberta Liberal Party, we believe in a different approach. We would immediately fund the additional 5000 teachers to close the gap between Alberta and the rest of Canada. We would commit to funding education at the combined rate of inflation as well as student enrollment growth.

We urge you to join us in this important conversation. Talk to your friends, family, and community members about the importance of investing in education. Together, we can build a brighter future for Alberta.
