Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan has released the following statement on today’s Transmountain Pipeline Expansion meeting in Ottawa between the Prime Minister and the Premiers of Alberta and B.C.:
“I am disappointed there has been no positive outcome after the TransMountain Pipeline meeting that was long on political grandstanding and short on any detailed practical solution.
“But now is not the time for the Alberta NDP Government to take drastic action that could harm Albertans and the whole province.
“Reducing oil production across the board to harm B.C. will only hurt our economy, reduce provincial revenue and threaten jobs, without advancing the approval of the pipeline project. This is divisive & counterproductive —cutting off our nose to spite our face.
“Rushing into billions of dollars of public investment in the pipeline is reckless without a detailed plan on how the project can move forward and benefit Albertans.
“We are demanding the NDP Government consult with Albertans before making its next move.
“We are also urging the federal government be an equal partner in any investment.
“This is an issue of national importance. This is a national infrastructure project that will create jobs for Albertans and Canadians.
“It will take more than last minute meetings and photo ops like today to get this built.”
