After over 3 years as the Alberta Liberal Party Leader and 7 years as an MLA representing Edmonton Meadowlark Dr. Raj Sherman announced he is stepping aside this morning. He will remain an MLA until the next Provincial Election but has resigned as Leader of the Party, effective immediately.
Under Dr. Sherman’s leadership, the Alberta Liberal Party became debt free. President of the Alberta Liberal Party, Shelley Wark-Martyn, thanked Dr. Sherman for his tireless, committed efforts to have the party and views of the political centre heard in Alberta.
“On behalf of the Alberta Liberal Party and all our supporters, I would like to thank Dr. Sherman for his community service and commitment to a better society for all Albertans.”
The Liberal Board of Directors will meet this Sunday in Calgary to select an interim leader, and then the party must go through the process of planning a Leadership Convention and preparing for a Provincial Election.
