Be part of the discussion at a Virtual Town Hall via Zoom.
Thursday, November 19th at 7:30 PM.
Mel McMillan, Professor Emeritus, Department of Economics at the University of Alberta and Nick Jansen, Masters of Public Policy from the University of Calgary, will join David Khan to explore the merits of a Sales Tax.
Melville McMillan is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics and a Fellow of the Institute of Public Economics at the University of Alberta. His BA and MSc are from the University of Alberta and his PhD is from Cornell University. He was on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin (Madison) before joining the University of Alberta in 1975. McMillan’s research and teaching interests are in public economics and, in particular, public finance, urban and local economics, fiscal federalism, and the demand for and supply of public goods and services. Although “retired”, Melville McMillan remains active in academic and policy matters and, at least prior to Covid 19, was usually found in his office in the Department of Economics.
Nick Jansen is a Senior Regulatory Advisor for Heartland Generation, a power generation company. He holds a Bachelor of Arts with double majors in Economics and Political Science and a Master's of Public Policy, both from the University of Calgary. Nick was integral in the development of the Alberta Liberal Party's 2019 provincial general election fiscal platform and was also the Alberta Liberal Party's Vice-President, Policy, an Expert on our Energy Subcommittee, and an Alberta Liberal candidate.
