CALGARY, AB (October 30, 2017): Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan released the following statement in reaction to the MLA for Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill crossing the floor to the Alberta Party Caucus:
“The Alberta Liberal team and I are focused on getting MLAs elected as Alberta Liberals, not luring over MLAs from other parties. That’s why I have been travelling the province on my 87 Constituency Tour, so that we are in a position to offer a strong alternative vision to Albertans in 2019.
“Alberta Liberals believe that constituents have the right to decide what party represents them in a free and fair election. That is why one of our legislative priorities is removing dark money from politics through our advocacy on regulating Political Action Committees (PACs).
“Alberta Liberals further believe that a Member’s priority should be representing the views of the constituents who elected them, and serving out their term. The voters of Calgary-Mountain View have elected my friend and colleague Dr. David Swann as a Liberal, and for years he has worked tirelessly to promote Liberal values and the interests of his constituents. He and I have agreed that he will serve out his term to honour the trust voters have placed in him, and continue his good work as a Liberal MLA.
“With regard to the recent resignation of MLA Dave Rodney, I call on Premier Notley not to play political games, and call a by-election as soon as possible. We will be ready to offer the voters of Calgary-Lougheed a real choice to move Alberta forward when the election is called.”
David Khan will be available for scrum-style interviews in the Legislature prior to today’s Question Period.
