David Khan concerned about LGBTQ2S+ Student Safety

Alberta Liberal Party Leader David Khan condemns that almost a quarter of Alberta school boards may not have LGBTQ2S+ policies to protect students.

Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan is deeply concerned about the safety of LGBTQ2S+ students at Alberta schools and is demanding the NDP government take action immediately.

A leaked Alberta Health Services report suggests up to 22 per cent of Alberta school boards may not have LGBTQ2S+ policies in place and available.

David Khan says, “I am shocked that so many school boards have not followed provincial requirements to develop and submit their LGBTQ2S+ policies. It’s been 2 years since the policy was issued and nothing has been done. This is intolerable. The NDP government should have acted sooner and with more resolve. What are they waiting for?”

Mr. Khan adds, “Pride Month is more than marching in parades. The NDP Government and the Education Minister must show backbone and implement a meaningful, binding and mandatory, province-wide LGBTQ2S+ school policy. Some school boards continue to flout the law and put students at risk.”

David Khan will be available for comment between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017.
