The Trans Mountain Expansion Project:
A Vital Link For Alberta
Alberta Liberal Leader David Swann approved the Alberta Government’s endorsement today of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project while expressing disappointment in B.C.’s rejection, yesterday, of the same project.
“We know for a fact it is possible to be environmentally responsible, to have good relationships with First Nations and local communities and to create industrial projects which benefit all of Canada,” said Dr. Swann. “The environment is absolutely the first priority but it is vital for Alberta, B.C. and Canada to have some of these pipeline projects completed.”
“Now, more than ever, we need to maximize market access for Alberta’s energy products,” Swann added. “This project carries the least risk of all the projects and follows the existing route – if it can't be built it is unlikely that any other will be. I urge Kinder Morgan and the Government of B.C. to work together to get this eminently sensible project underway.”
There is a great deal of work to do to get the pipeline approved and built. Dr. Swann will be working with colleagues in this legislature and in B.C.’s to further this economically vital project.
