My name is Neil Marion, and I have been a construction worker for over 12 years - working in and around Calgary and alongside various other trades. Currently I am a 4th year student at Mount Royal University, working towards my Bachelor in General Science, with a Minor in Geography.
Given my background, I feel strongly about workers’ rights and their safety. I believe I am able to represent the challenges construction workers face and would like to represent their best interests in the Legislature. As you may have guessed, I am also passionate about post-secondary education and I firmly believe that it broadens young minds, creates lasting friendships and develops networks that will lead to individual successes that will benefit all Albertans in the long run. Education has the potential to diversify Alberta’s economy; to not invest in it will ultimately damage our future economy.
I not only want to see post-secondary education receive the attention it warrants, but I also want to see more students see the value in participating in democracy. I hope to reduce voter apathy and I work hard to convince everyone that their vote will make a difference.
I would like to see support for local businesses, because I believe that they will have a key part in diversifying Alberta’s economy. I think government should facilitate opportunities that will help ensure small business success, and offer realistic support to those companies.
I believe in the Alberta Liberal Party, because I believe that a government should be honest and accountable for their actions. I believe in democracy and I believe that governments are there to serve the people. Given the opportunity, I know I can successfully represent the constituents of Calgary-North West and address their concerns.
