“I want to offer my friends, neighbors and family a reasonable choice for West Yellowhead.” - Lisa Higgerty
Born and raised in Hinton, Lisa’s family has roots in West Yellowhead that go back 60 years. As a member of the management team at the Hinton Friendship Centre, and a former small business owner, Lisa has seen first hand the ups and downs of the local mining and timber industries. Lisa promises her hard work and dedication to ensure a diverse and stable economy for the people of West Yellowhead.
Lisa is currently finishing her Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from Grant MacEwan College and is an active member of her community.
Her involvement includes 3 years of experience on the Hinton RCMP Community Advisory Committee, 4 years with Victim Services of Hinton, and 5 years as the Hinton United Way Fundraising Chair. In her free time, Lisa is an avid downhill skier and enjoys long distance running, volleyball, baseball, and reading.
Lisa and her husband John have been married for seven years. She has two stepdaughters: Laura, who was an Alberta Liberal candidate in the last provincial election, and Sarah, who is finishing high school.
When asked to identify the most pressing issues facing Alberta today, Lisa identified the balance between economic development and environment, as well as education. According to Lisa, the pine beetle infestation currently ravaging the British Columbian forestry industry is just one of nature’s signals about the effects of global climate change, and she believes it is up to Albertans to listen and take action.
