Stony Plain

Bill Fraser

“I don’t want to just be a seat in the legislature, but rather the voice of the people of the Stony Plain Constituency.” -Bill Fraser

A teacher and labour leader, Bill Fraser is accustomed to standing up for what he believes in, and to earning the privilege of representing other people.

Born in Vancouver, Bill grew up and was educated in Welland and St. Catherines, Ontario.  He holds an Associate of Arts degree from Concordia Junior College in Ann Arbor, Michigan and a B. Ed from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska.  He is a life-long learner and has continuously improved his education through the U of A and Athabasca University.

Bill is a teacher in the Parkland School District.  He is a member of the Alberta Teacher’s Association Science Teachers Council and the Mathematics Council.  At the local level, he is chair of the Annual Representative Assembly (and has been for 10 years), and a member of the Economic Policy Committee for the ATA.  He has been elected president of the Parkland Local #10 (ATA) for 5 terms, has served on many committees and been awarded an “ATA watch” by its teacher-members.

In the community, Bill is very active in his church. He has served in the roles of Elder and Chairman of the Congregation, and is presently the Chairman of the Board of Elders for Riverbend Lutheran Church, Edmonton.  He has served on, and been chair, of three building committees for two congregations and served on the Alberta – BC District Constitutional Revision Committee of the Lutheran church.

In the Stony Plain constituency, Bill knows that the environment is a key issue; he cites issues surrounding sour gas wells in the west and the recent oil spill in Lake Wabamun.  He will also work towards the constituency’s infrastructure needs in education and roads, and towards better standards and support for seniors’ and general health care.

When Bill gets some spare time he likes to spend it doing carpentry, drawing, photography and cooking.  He especially enjoys the time he spends with his new grandchildren.
