Red Deer-North

Richard Farrand

“Albertans need to know their resource and tax dollars are spent wisely, and that our collective wealth will provide a healthy future.” – Richard Farrand

Born in Yorkshire, UK, Richard has been an Alberta resident since 1977, and has lived in Red Deer for the past 26 years. After receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cambridge University, Richard gained broad industrial experience. His recent work in the petrochemical industry as a professional engineer and in project management has taken him into many parts of Alberta. He currently works in the oil and gas sector managing the construction of a major compression facility.

Richard has diverse interests in his community. He has been involved with the Central Alberta Leadership Centre, the United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and APEGGA. He has even found the time to act in a play produced by the Central Alberta Theatre. He has travelled extensively in Canada, the United States and Europe and worked in Libya for two years.

With his wife Maryvonne, a retired teacher, Richard has seen his two adult daughters progress into their own careers, and is proud of the post-graduate degrees his girls have earned.

Richard knows that communities want to feel safe and strong. “Of course we must push for a sustainable economy, good health care and good schools. Red Deer-North needs affordable housing, and a safe and crime free community,” he says.

He believes that Albertans deserve a government that is open and transparent, and expects that our province can set a worldwide standard for good governance.
