Everett Tanis

“I will put community interest before self-interest, and work for the common good rather than with selfish ambition for personal gain.  It’s time to renew our faith in democracy.” - Everett Tanis

As a farmer and former member of the armed forces, Everett Tanis knows the importance and value of hard work.

He immigrated to Canada after completing his term of service with the Dutch Armed Forces, in 1962.

Besides working on his farm, Everett enjoys bird watching, gardening and volunteering during his spare time.

Some of Everrett’s volunteer work includes raising funds for the Picture Butte Recreation Centre as Chair of the Picture Butte Recreation Centre Fund Raising Committee. He considers the efforts of the committee and its volunteers to have been instrumental in this project opening its doors fully funded.

He got involved with the area Chamber of Commerce 30 years ago chiefly to lobby the provincial government on behalf of agricultural producers. Everett is concerned that the voices of dissent in rural Alberta are not being heard by the current government.

Everett has been immersed in politics since a very young age. Among his fondest childhood memories are the many weekends and evenings spent helping his father place election signs when he was in elementary school.

He strongly believes that MLAs must put community interest before self interest, and work for the common good rather than with selfish ambition for personal gain.
