Bal Boora, Lethbridge-West
As a registered engineering technologist, a small businessman, and a tireless community advocate, Bal Boora has made Alberta his home for 35 years.
Born in India, Bal and his family settled in Brooks in 1973 before moving to Lethbridge in 1982. Bal earned a diploma in Civil Engineering in 1969, and spent a rewarding career in the water resources engineering and water management sector for over 29 years before establishing himself as a successful small businessman in the financial services sector.
In the community, Bal has a passion for helping others. Bal has donated his spare time to a number of charities and organizations, including serving as President of the Lethbridge Society of Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, the Lethbridge Terry Fox run, the local public library board, and various medical charities. An active citizen, Bal recently served on the Advisory Committee for the City of Lethbridge’s “Heart of Our City” Master Plan for downtown revitalization.
When asked about the issues in his constituency, Bal cites affordable housing, a strong public health care system, seniors’ services, and infrastructure renewal, including the construction of new high schools as priorities. He also strongly believes that the government should take greater steps to protect our environment through conservation and innovation.
Bal is married to Jaswant and has three sons: Raj, an educator at the University of Alberta; Par, an MD and third-year resident in general surgery in Edmonton; and Jyote, an eighth grade student at Gilbert Patterson School. He also has one 18 month-old grandson, Kiran.
