Born in Uganda, Augustine Ebinu moved to Alberta 17 years ago, and has spent the last 7 years as a resident of Grande Prairie. After studying at Uganda Technical College in Kampala, Augustine was awarded scholarships by the Ugandan government to study Agricultural Engineering abroad. Over the years, Augustine earned both his Master’s of Technical Sciences degree in Agricultural Mechanics from the St. Petersburg Agrarian State University in Russia, and his Master’s of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
Augustine has accumulated over 20 years of post-secondary teaching and research experience in Agricultural Engineering at Makerere University in Uganda, and at the University of Swaziland.
In Canada, Augustine has held several senior positions. He was Manager of international development projects funded by the Canadian International Development Agencies (CIDA) in Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Ukraine. Prior to that, Augustine was Program Officer for the CIDA/Prairie Decentralized Support Program administered by the Camrose International Institute, and later the Executive Director of the Edmonton Immigrant Services Association. Augustine is currently the Director of the Academy for Mathematics & Science at Grande Prairie Centre and a part-time instructor at Grande Prairie Regional College.
An active member of his community, Augustine is a member of the Grande Prairie Sunrise Rotary Club, a board member of the Grande Prairie Public Library, and has been involved with the Habitat for Humanity South Peace Society, and the Grande Prairie & District Multicultural Association. He is a founding member of the Canadian African-Caribbean Association of Grande Prairie. In his free time, he enjoys badminton, tennis, swimming, and reading.
Augustine is concerned with balancing environment and development in a manner that sustains rural communities; strengthening our health care system and ensuring better care for our seniors; and obtaining a fair deal on Alberta’s royalty revenues.
Augustine has been married to his wife Mary, a local High School Teacher, for 34 years. Together, they have 3 sons: Isaac, Julius, and Ben.
