Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo

Ross Jacobs

“I love Alberta and I love Fort McMurray, but as a renter with a young family here I live through many of the same problems that plague a large number in our province. I want to make Fort McMurray not just a great place to work, but a great place to live and raise a family.” – Ross Jacobs

Ross Jacobs is a committed volunteer and proud member of Fort McMurray’s community. He has a diploma in radio broadcasting from Algonquin College in Ottawa and has worked as a DJ at radio stations in Alberta and Ontario, most recently at CJOK in Fort McMurray. Currently Ross is a project coordinator for a heavy construction and asphalt company.

Since arriving in Fort McMurray from Ontario four years ago, Ross has wasted no time in becoming an integral part of the community’s fabric. He volunteers actively with a number of charities, including Kids Forever, the United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society, Relay for Life, Heritage Park, the Northern Lights Regional Health Foundation, Interplay, Project Playhouse, the Boys & Girls Club and Keyano College Foundation.

Last summer, Ross and his partner April became parents to Duncan.  Ross will work for positive changes to ease the burden on young families such as his, not just in Fort McMurray but around the province. In the Legislature, he will focus on affordable housing, land-use issues, healthcare, and improving Highway 63.

In his spare time, Ross enjoys acting and entertaining. He performs around Fort McMurray as a magician, auctioneer and master of ceremonies, and he has starred at Keyano Theatre in performances of Treasure Island and Pageant. He also coaches softball and hockey.
