Tom Dooley, Drumheller-Stettler
Tom Dooley is a local cattle rancher who has worked his family’s land near Drumheller since 1973. He has deep roots in the Drumheller-Stettler constituency and has served that community through work in municipal government, as a volunteer and in many other roles.
Experienced in the art of government, Tom served six years (1989-1995) as a councillor for the former Municipal District of Badlands, many as Deputy Reeve. He oversaw the incorporation of this MD during his time on council and learned that running a good government is in many ways like running his successful farming business.
Among other things, Tom has served the community of East Coulee by volunteering for both the community association and the fire department. He has coached soccer in the Drumheller Soccer Association for twenty years and was given the responsibility of Project Manager for the new soccer field in Drumheller.
Tom has completed post-secondary training in both Forestry Technology (BCIT) and Agricultural Production (Olds College.) He also holds a commercial pilot’s license.
When asked about issues in his constituency, Tom identifies the need to improve educational infrastructure and roads. He is also concerned with health care staffing and the way the provincial government is handling the contentious Balzac water transfer. All in all, he wants to work towards simple good governance and real accountability and transparency.
Tom Dooley’s family includes his wife of thirty years Diana, and his two son’s Michael and John. John has just completed a degree in political science and will serve as Tom’s campaign manager.
