Alberta Liberal Action Plan for Human Services

• Replace the workfare model with social justice and social development approaches, to better enable people toward self-sufficiency.
• To address the current staffing crisis, ensure that human services workers in the not-for-profit sector receive the same wages and benefits as their government counterparts.
• Index AISH benefits according to Statistics Canada “average weekly earnings” for Alberta (as is done with MLA salaries).
• Work with AISH stakeholders to identify and address deficiencies in the current program.
• Streamline the AISH application system.
• Review the Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) program to ensure that the funding provides quality services and care to adults with developmental difficulties, and reaches the front-line.
