In a time when Albertans are looking for real leadership, Premier Ed Stelmach has refused to publicly debate Alberta Liberal leader Kevin Taft.
Taft challenged Stelmach to a public debate in a letter sent on May 16, 2007.
“Albertans are looking for real leadership from their elected leaders; it is in this spirit of democracy and accountability that I challenged Premier Stelmach to a public debate. Albertans should be disappointed that he isn’t up for the challenge,” said Taft.
On March 19, 2007, in response to a question posed by Taft in the Alberta Legislature, Stelmach responded: “Mr. Speaker, I’ll look forward to the debate any time, anywhere. It doesn’t matter the time of day. Any time.”
“Albertans are ready for a new kind of government that will provide real leadership and focus for a 21st century Alberta. A public debate would provide Albertans with a chance to take a look at what their choices are,” said Taft.
