Party Renewal

Statement from David Swann on Name Change

“On April 25, after four months of consideration, I announced that the Party will not be changing its name.  Thank you to everyone for giving their input and opinions. I wanted to put everything ‘on the table’ and it is time now to move on and focus on our primary objectives - strengthening the Alberta Liberals and holding this stale Stelmach government accountable!  Therefore, while the Renewal Commission will continue its work, it will not consider any name change further.

The Alberta Liberal Party has a proud history and has survived for 104 years through our founding government under Alexander Rutherford, through the Great Depression, two World Wars and all of the ups and downs that this province has seen. The reason we have been around for so long, through the good and the bad, is that the Liberal brand represents values and traditions that we can be proud of, and that we can successfully offer to other Albertans.  Our name represents hope for a cleaner, fairer and healthier province.
I am proud to be the Alberta Liberal Leader and intend to travel the province in the coming months to meet as many of you as possible. This is our time; this is our Party; this is our future. Please join me in creating the next Alberta.
My thanks to the more than 300 people who attended the Friendship Brunch and ALP AGM on Saturday in Calgary!  It was thrilling to see the excitement and feel the commitment to building a better future for Alberta.  Your leadership and contributions to the ALP are much appreciated.  I look forward to meeting all of you and hearing your dreams for Alberta.
I sincerely thank the outgoing members of our executive - Grant Dunlop, Carrol Jaques, Mike McNeil and Roger Holmes and look forward to working with these wonderful volunteers on other Liberal projects.”
