By-Election in Calgary Glenmore

Dr. Avalon Roberts Nominated in Calgary-Glenmore

The Alberta Liberals have nominated Avalon Roberts as their candidate for the upcoming Calgary-Glenmore by-election.  At the only contested nomination meeting among all the political parties for this by-election, the Alberta Liberals voted for Avalon Roberts as their candidate to run for the seat vacated by former Deputy Premier Ron Stevens.  Alberta Liberal Leader Dr. David Swann congratulated Roberts on her successful nomination.  “Thank you to both candidates for putting their names forward. I know with Avalon’s experience in health care, and from her work as a candidate in previous elections, that she will be a formidable opponent on the campaign trail,” says Swann.

“I look forward to her joining our caucus as the MLA for Calgary-Glenmore,” Swann continued.

Avalon Roberts is a practicing psychiatrist. She has served as the president of the Alberta Psychiatric Association and provincial Chair of Friends of Medicare. She worked for many years with her children’s school and sports organizations. She has lived in Calgary since 1980, is married and has two adult daughters.

“I’m ready to get out there knocking on doors, talking with voters about the issues and most of all, listening to what they have to say,” says Roberts. “This government is running the province in secrecy without consulting with stakeholders. We need to send a message to them that this is not okay.”
